Nadine Sulkowski

Senior Lecturer in Systemic Resilience Management

I am passionate about developing international collaborations and multi-stakeholder collaborations, either through institutional partnerships or international project work. My academic expertise and interests revolve around systemic resilience planning.

Biography

I have a wealth of experience in developing international collaborations and have contributed significantly to the enhancement of higher education institutional governance structures.

Being a Fellow of the Institute of Strategic Risk Management, I have delivered several international keynote speeches and frequently participate in multi-stakeholder panel debates on topics related to sustainability and resilience planning.

My work has allowed me to travel extensively across Southeast Asia. My first academic position was in West Bengal, India, where I spent eighteen months before joining the University of Gloucestershire. Prior to that, I worked for several years in the European hotel and resort industry.

As a visiting lecturer, I had the opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of academic programmes across Indonesia and Germany.

Teaching & Research

Teaching

I teach on the School’s postgraduate business programmes, where I specialise in sustainability and resilience planning, business continuity management and crisis communication. My foremost ambition is to inspire students to become future change agents and innovators in these fields.

Research

Between 2019 and 2023, I led the million Euro Erasmus+ capacity building project “Building Universities in Leading Disaster Resilience (BUiLD)”. The project delivered a disaster resilience framework that synergistically integrates and expands institutional disaster resilience activities across Indonesia’s higher education sector. Within this context, we have established eight Centres of Excellence in Disaster Resilience across Indonesia’s main regions and a national association overseeing the work of these centres. Part of my ongoing research focuses on how higher education institutions can become better at delivering crisis and disaster resilience capability in support of their multiple stakeholders.

As part of the Erasmus+ VET project empower4pandemias I am currently designing an organisational pandemic resilience model and training suite for the European primary healthcare sector.

Prior to that, I worked on creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem across Indonesia by establishing Growth Hubs in seven universities that act as catalysts for innovation in entrepreneurship education, university-business collaboration and business incubation.
