Erika Barnes

Senior Lecturer in Journalism

With more than twenty years experience as a broadcast journalist, Erika’s expertise is in news writing and story-telling. Her aim is to share her experiences, helping students gain courage and skills to embrace opportunities in the news industry.

Before becoming a university lecturer, Erika had a successful career as a broadcast journalist – as a reporter, news reader, presenter and producer.  She started in ILR and then moved to BBC Radio Oxford, contributing to local and national news coverage and also hosting her own news and current affairs radio shows.  Then came a career in TV with ITV Central where she reported on major news and sports events for a regional audience – including the RAF’s role in the Gulf War, and coverage of Premiership rugby and the Cheltenham Festival.
