Basketball scholarship

Find out more about our basketball scholarship at UoG.

Basketball is a developing sport in Gloucester and at UoG. This year we have continued our partnership with Gloucester City Kings, the local men’s basketball team who play in the National Basketball League – Division 3.

Our University side competes in the the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues on Wednesday afternoons, and many of our students play in either national league for Kings, or in one of the lower Kings teams in the local league. There are certainly plenty of basketball opportunities available for keen players to come and get involved in.

Players who gain entry to the UoG competitive team will have access to the extra benefits of being on our performance sport pathway. These include:

We are able to provide some scholarship options to players who show great potential to help our team continue their success in order to climb the BUCS leagues.

Meet the coaches

Elvisi Dusha

Elvisi has played professionally here in the UK since the age of 17.  He ranks as one of the best point guards to play in this country, currently sitting 4th in the All-Time in Assists.

His playing career has seen him play in Surrey, Plymouth, Worcester and Bristol. His proud Albanian heritage has seen him playing just as long internationally, playing in some of the biggest European competitions.

Alongside his playing career, his passion for coaching has seen him take the lead role at Marjons University taking them from Tier 3 to Tier 1 as well as run his own individual development company, V12 Elite, working with some of the brightest talent from around the country.

Jay Marriott

Jay is the founder of our partnership club, the Gloucester City Kings. His role within the University basketball program is recruitment, media and operations to make sure the structure can support our planned growth in the game.

Jay was fortunate to be a scholarship athlete in San Francisco, USA before moving on to a ten year professional basketball playing career around Europe and Asia. Since retiring, he’s been in professional coaching and management for 14 years gaining experience in the UK, USA and internationally in the Middle East.

Within the partnership Jay also leads the St Peter’s Academy in Gloucester, which sees them compete in the CBL structure, at ages 16-19. This season we have welcomed two graduates from his programme as our scholar athletes as we look to strengthen the relationship and see UoG become their preferred destination for education and sport.
