Sports and Physical Wellbeing

Our Sport and Physical Wellbeing Strategy is dedicated to providing inclusive sport and physical activities, supporting the University’s future strategic aims.

University of Gloucestershire has a well-earned and strong reputation for sport gained over many years, with thousands of students studying sport related courses, representing the University at various levels of competition and thousands more taking part recreationally or volunteering.

Through our new Sport and Physical Wellbeing Strategy, University of Gloucestershire is dedicated to providing inclusive sport and physical activity (PA) experiences in support of the University’s future strategic aims. Our vision is to embed sport and PA at the centre of our university communities every day, with the majority of our students and staff benefitting by engaging in the wide range of inclusive and accessible opportunities we provide.

Key themes

Our strategy has 5 key themes or areas we will focus on to support of its successful delivery:

Theme 1: Create a positive, inclusive culture to enhance the student experience of sport

  • Develop a partnership for delivery of sport and PA between UniSport and Students’ Union with annual review.
  • Creation of ‘TeamGlos’ framework of education and training for sports clubs and PA delivery, ensuring a safe, enjoyable and inclusive sport model for all.

Theme 2: More of the university community more active, more of the time

  • An annual commitment to deliver of ‘Move Your way’, our free physical wellbeing activity programme for all students and staff at the University.
  • Investing in our peer-peer workforce model to support inclusive and increasing levels of PA.
  • Demonstrating that impact of engaging with sport and PA and an increase in reporting of our community feeling ‘well’.

Theme 3: Develop and showcase the University facilities, spaces and places

  • Development of new and existing facilities, services and external partnerships to support increased levels of PA, improved student recruitment and BUCS team performance.
  • Improve and enhance operational standards.
  • Customer service and improved user satisfaction.
  • Increase University income and improve financial sustainability.

Theme 4: Increase recruitment to the University by improving sporting reputation

  • Creation of a robust performance sport framework to compete with the very best.
  • Enhancing the recognition of sporting achievements across the University.
  • Creating a partnership programme for sustainable sporting practice and graduate transitions.

Theme 5: Support improved attainment and employability of students

  • Create a physically active community that are enabled to build on their achievements as graduates and flourish in the workplace.
  • Support our students who take on club leadership roles to maximise their learning from their experience to enhance their employability skills.
