Amy is a Chartered Psychologist, Chartered Scientist and Registered Forensic Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). She has experience developing, leading and teaching BPS accredited Forensic Psychology courses and is a member of the BPS Division of Forensic Psychology Training Committee (DFPTC).
Amy is also the REF Unit of Assessment 4 (UoA4; Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience) Coordinator and research lead for the Psychological Sciences discipline. She is passionate about research and helping to develop and mentor other researchers. Her main research interests focus on sexual violence and the application of psychology within police and investigatory settings.
Amy’s research focuses on the application of psychology within police and investigatory settings, with an emphasis on hostage and crisis negotiation and conflict communication. She has experience of working with police forces both nationally and internationally in a research, training, advisory, and consultancy basis.
Amy has specific expertise in the area of hostage and crisis negotiation, a topic which formed the basis of her PhD thesis. She has published widely on the subject and is motivated by a desire to improve police negotiator practice and enhance efficacy of negotiator deployments and interventions involving hostage taking or crisis situations.
