Associate Professor Of Forensic Psychology

Dr. Amy Grubb is an Associate Professor of Forensic Psychology and academic course leader/programme director for MSc Forensic Psychology.

Biography

Amy is a Chartered Psychologist, Chartered Scientist and Registered Forensic Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). She has experience developing, leading and teaching BPS accredited Forensic Psychology courses and is a member of the BPS Division of Forensic Psychology Training Committee (DFPTC).

Amy is also the REF Unit of Assessment 4 (UoA4; Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience) Coordinator and research lead for the Psychological Sciences discipline. She is passionate about research and helping to develop and mentor other researchers. Her main research interests focus on sexual violence and the application of psychology within police and investigatory settings.

Research

Amy’s research focuses on the application of psychology within police and investigatory settings, with an emphasis on hostage and crisis negotiation and conflict communication. She has experience of working with police forces both nationally and internationally in a research, training, advisory, and consultancy basis.

Amy has specific expertise in the area of hostage and crisis negotiation, a topic which formed the basis of her PhD thesis. She has published widely on the subject and is motivated by a desire to improve police negotiator practice and enhance efficacy of negotiator deployments and interventions involving hostage taking or crisis situations.

External responsibilities

Advisor for Hampshire Constabulary on their Prevention of Serious Sexual Offences Campaign in 2009

Advisor for Warwickshire Police on their rape awareness/prevention campaigns in 2011 and 2013

Commissioned as a consultant by Warwickshire County Council and Warwickshire Police to conduct research to inform the development of the Coventry and Warwickshire Sexual Assault Referral Centre in 2011

Consultant in the development of the National Negotiator Deployment Database being led by the National Negotiator Group (NNG)

Commissioned by Norfolk Constabulary to analyse pilot data from the National Negotiator Deployment Database between January 2015 and December 2016.
