Ben Hamid

Lecturer In Music Production

As a producer and DJ I work with a wide range of people on a variety of different projects which are performed in clubs, on radio and in theatres. I run an independent record label and work as a mixing and mastering engineer.

Biography

My current practice explores opportunities offered by experimental composition within Soundsystem Cultures.

I am actively engaged with many aspects of creative sound production from field and studio recording to sound design and contemporary production.

My specialism is in Electronic Music production working both within established genres and also in more experimental contexts. My current practice explores opportunities offered by an Acousmatic approach to encourage innovation within current musical styles and the inherent capacity for stylistic mutation.

I have been producing my own work for over 15 years with various releases and airplay on radio stations including RinseFM, BBC R1, 1Xtra and Asian Network. I receive commissions for music and sound design producing material for clients such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, Rich Mix and Soyaha Visions (Arts Council).

I have run an independent record label releasing music for over 10 years and have been mastering music for a range of regular clients since 2018. I have good knowledge of copyright and professional practice including ISRC codes, PPL, PRS and also distribution networks, promotion and marketing.

I have experience in various forms of sonic performance from DJing in clubs to sound installations with a particular focus on the potential creative applications of Spatial audio.
