Dr Hong Shi, a passionate advocate for the hospitality and tourism industry, found her calling through her early work experiences, where she discovered the profound impact of hospitality on people’s lives. Her journey began with a scholarship opportunity that brought her to the United Kingdom, where she pursued her master’s degree in Tourism Management at the prestigious University of Derby.
Driven by a thirst for knowledge and a desire to contribute to the field, she furthered her education by embarking on a Ph.D in Strategic Hospitality Management. Her dedication to fostering talent led her to spearhead the launch of the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program at the University of Gloucestershire. In addition to her academic endeavours, she actively facilitated collaborations between UoG and Hong Kong Higher Education Institution.
Research interests primarily focus on delving deeper into exploring the integration of technology and sustainability. Discovering how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain and internet if Things can be leveraged to address environmental concerns.
She has successfully supervised 14 PhD and DBA completions and offers research supervision across a range of management areas

She is currently serving as an external examiner for a DBA research student at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Previously, she participated as an external member of the panel for the periodic review of undergraduate Hospitality, Tourism, and Leisure Events programme at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. Additionally, she held the position of external examiner for the international MBA program at the University of Wales and serviced as an external examiner for a candidate pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Sunderland.
