I started my career in the newsrooms of ITV and BBC, working in a variety of different roles including picture editor, gallery director and video journalist. Continuing my passion for telling stories about real people, I then worked freelance making factual documentaries for UK and US-based production companies.
I’m passionate about teaching, and the importance of bringing authentic working practices into the university. I am still active in broadcasting and continue to maintain strong links with industry professionals. Alongside my teaching, I’ve worked for the BFI film academy and BBC Arts Council as a mentor/producer supporting young filmmakers.
I am the module leader for short-form documentary and multi-camera virtual productions. I also co-teach ‘Working in Television.’ This module prepares the students for life after university, supporting them to gain TV work experience and build industry contacts so they are confident and ready to join the industry after their degree.
