I specialise in the areas of eighteenth-century literature, Romanticism and modern Irish literature and have a background in critical theory. I am interested in the relationship between literature, history and psychology.
Member of the British Association for the Study of Romanticism and the Eghteenth-Century Ireland Society.
I teach across the curriculum and run one of the core modules in the second year, ‘Restoration to Romantics: the Long Eighteenth Century’
My research currently focuses on private theatricals in Ireland, c. 1760 to 1830. This is primarily a literary study, which draws on texts such as prologues and epilogues and plays written for private theatricals, but it also explores the material features of private theatricals as an important dimension of their impact and significance. I have a longstanding interest in the work of Elizabeth Bowen and am preparing a number of articles which examine her exploration of dispossession in her work.
