I am a Operating Department Practitioner and Senior Lecturer at the university and deliver content in the BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practice course in areas such as surgery, leadership and management, advanced surgery and research and evidence-based practice.
Upon completion of my Operating Department Practice (ODP) course in 2000 I gained invaluable experience of providing person-centred care in the perioperative setting through a variety of specialities such as genral and plastic surgery. I worked as a practice educator, enjoying my role in supporting ODP learners and working as part of a team in operating theatres. I had the privilege of becoming a lead practice educator, supporting both practice educators and learners in the clinical setting until my first role as a lecturer in ODP in 2010. I am passionsate about the continued progression of the profession and work with the College of Operating Department Practitioners as a member of the Education and Standards Committee.
As part of my own continuing professional development, I had the pleasure of co-editing and writing chapters in a book – Surgical First Assistant: The Essentials of Practice.
