Prof Mick Healey

Emeritus Professor

Mick is a higher education researcher and consultant and emeritus professor. He has published over 350 articles, which have been cited over 10,000 times. Mick is often asked to act as an advisor to projects, universities and governments on aspects of learning and teaching in higher education.

Biography

I am passionate about enhancing the quality of learning and teaching in higher education. I was one of the first people in the UK to be awarded a National Teaching Fellowship and be made a Principal Fellow of the HE Academy. In 2015 I was given a Distinguished Service Award by the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. I am an enthusiastic advocate of the role of student-staff partnerships in universities and am the inaugural senior editor of the International Journal for Students as Partners published by McMaster University Press.

Teaching

As an emeritus professor I no longer teach students directly on degree courses. However I continue to give talks to staff and students around the world. In the last 20 years I have presented around 500 keynotes and workshops on learning and teaching in higher education in over 25 countries.

Research

Learning and teaching in higher education including: scholarship of teaching and learning; student-staff partnerships; engaging students in research and inquiry; and writing about learning and teaching.
