Dr Rachel Bennett

Senior Lecturer in Human Geography

I am a Senior Lecturer in Human Geography specialising in health and wellbeing in a global context. I lead the MSc Sustainable Global Futures programme – a unique online course delivered in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.

Biography

Alongside my teaching and course leader responsibilities I also co-chair the University’s Sanctuary Steering Group which oversees the Michael Perham Sanctuary Scholarship scheme and other initiatives to create a culture of welcome for people from a forced migration background.

I convene NS5315 Global Health and NS6310 Global Ageing at undergraduate level and NS7325 Healthy Futures and Sustainable Communities and NS7326 Practical Data and Policy Evaluation Skills for Sustainable Development at postgraduate level.

Research

I am a demographer by training and my research interests span migration, wellbeing, ageing, families and employment. My primary geographical foci have been South Africa and the UK, but I have also been involved in projects spanning other African and European countries.
