Research

Sarah’s profile combines pioneering research into the psychological components of performance under pressure with extensive applied experience in elite sport. Her research has a specific focus on the phenomenon of choking and the role of self-presentational concerns. This work was highly innovative, exploring an area that was under-researched at the time and was among the first to examine the impact of self-presentational concerns on performance failure. Sarah has actively disseminated this empirical and applied research through publications and presentations at national conferences.

Complementing her research, Sarah has significant applied experience in high-performance environments. Her work with Sport Wales involved implementing psychological skills with elite athletes and contributing to the development of organisational frameworks for thriving under pressure.

Her current role at the Cheltenham Town FC academy focuses on the crucial areas of education and development within a professional sport setting. This body of applied work, alongside her continued engagement with the field through conference reviews and masterclasses, will inform practice and evidence across her teaching.
