Susan Colverd

Senior Lecturer in Drama and Theatre

I have an acting and directing background working nationally and internationally. I am passionate about exploring the actor’s processes in devising, classical and cutting edge contemporary work.

Biography

As an actor, I worked in theatre notably with the Actor’s Touring Company where I was nominated for an Olivier Award, the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre and in TV. I was Artistic Director of the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham for 10 years directing, writing pantomimes and working with new writers and also ran my own theatre company. I’m a freelance theatre practitioner and a director, working with Red Dog Theatre and Show of Strength in Bristol.

Teaching & Research

Teaching

I am Senior Lecturer in Drama and Theatre and deliver acting, theatre histories, screen acting and creative drama.

Research

I am currently researching the efficacy of Drama as an intervention for social and emotional competency for vulnerable children in educational settings. I am also part of a three year European Research Program ARTPAD [Achieving Resilience Through Play and Drama] working with partners in Poland, Germany, Hungary and Austria currently led by our Subject Group of Drama and Play.

Trustee of Theatre Gloucestershire, an organisation that promotes and produces work with Gloucestershire based theatre companies and practitioners.
