What is Journalism and Communications (Level 6) BA (Hons)?

If you’re studying for – or already have – a foundation degree, HND or Diploma of Higher Education and you’d like to top this up to a full BA honours degree, then this course is designed for you.

Our media, journalism and communications courses were ranked 10th in the UK for teaching and 3rd in the UK for academic support according to the National Student Survey 2023.

You’ll further develop your journalism and communications skills under our expert teaching team. They’ve worked for national and international media organisations – including the BBC, ITV, The Athletic, The Sunday Times and magazine publisher Bauer Media.

This is a practical course which aims to produce work-ready graduates who have the skills, knowledge and confidence to forge a successful career in the media industry. Students from our journalism subject community have gone on to work for employers including Sky, the BBC, Vice, The Telegraph, ITV, as well as a number of PR and communications agencies and leading sports clubs.

Study style

You’ll be taught in lectures, seminars and workshops – supported by one-to-one tutorials. You’ll be assessed in practical projects, written coursework, essays and portfolios.

You’ll learn in state-of-the-art studios and teaching spaces, using the latest technology to create engaging content for multiple digital platforms. You’ll also complete a work placement – or series of placements – in industry.

Entry requirements

    • Applicants should possess an HND, Diploma of Higher Education or Foundation degree.

    • We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants, although some entry requirements may still apply for Professionally Accredited Courses. We accept Access to Higher Education Diplomas and make offers on an individual basis.

    • English Language or Literature and Maths Grade 4/C in GCSE (or equivalent) are normally required.
