Why choose UoG?

Explore the science behind sport, health and performance with our hands-on, career-focused course taught by experts in their fields.

Top reasons to study this course

This BASES (British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences) endorsed course blends biomechanics, physiology, psychology, and professional placements to shape your future as a sport scientist.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge health and performance assessments, from body composition and injury prevention to exercise cognition and extreme environment research.

With a focus on small class sizes and practical learning, our coursework-led assessments develop the skills employers, and postgraduate courses look for.

At our purpose-built Oxstalls Campus & Sports Park, you’ll have access to top-tier facilities, sports scholarships, and a thriving athletic community. Plus, we offer fee waivers, bursaries, and exclusive postgraduate discounts to support your journey.

Whilst being built on the core disciplines of biomechanics, physiology, and psychology this course also gives you the flexibility to tailor your learning too.

You can choose to specialise in health and exercise with modules like ‘Exercise for special populations’ or focus on performance with the module ‘Performance Analysis’.

At level 6, our Data Analytics module uses advanced software and AI to handle big data, which is an essential skill for careers in sport, health and beyond.

Your learning will be hands-on, blending lectures, small group seminars, lab work and gym-based practicals to ensure real-world application.

Our graduates thrive in diverse roles across sport, health and research. Many become sports science consultants, applying knowledge to enhance athletic performance, or performance analysts, using data to optimise team strategies and game play.

Others can leverage their expertise in nutrition, working in sport, health or the food industry.

Our graduates have secured positions with UK Anti-Doping and British Swimming, shaping the future of elite sport.

In healthcare, our graduates go on to work as clinical physiologists, cardiac rehabilitation instructors, and health promotion specialists play vital roles in improving public well-being.

Some graduates have pursued careers in physiotherapy, while others support NHS mental health services through physical activity programs.

For those passionate about research, opportunities exist in academia, both nationally and internationally, leading to careers as sport and health researchers.

These career paths highlight the breadth of skills our graduates develop, preparing them to make a real impact in sport, health, and beyond.
