We’ll examine concepts of race and gender in Grace Nichols’ poems. A great opportunity to experience what studying at University is like.

Join us to explore the power of ecopoetry to re-enchant readers with the natural world and encourage them to protect and care for it.

Sharper characters and cool plots

We’ll carry out a number of writing exercises with plenty of group discussion, too. You’ll be gossiping about your characters behind their backs, writing letters to yourselves, and even describing the way they smell.

Where do writers get their inspiration?

Different people respond to different prompts, so we’ll use ideas from other writers, our senses and emotions, and objects/photographs to help explore your own experiences and engage readers with creative descriptions, original characters, and scenes full of tension.

1 March – How to Start a Witch Craze

We will examine how and why witchcraft accusations escalated in early modern Europe leading to mass persecutions and executions.

21 March – Everyday Stalinism

A hands-on session exploring what it was like to live in the Soviet Union under Stalin.

Religion, Philosophy and Ethics

Part one – Religion in times of global uncertainty

Consider and discuss the place of belief, faith and practice in addressing contemporary issues such as food poverty, climate emergency and conflict. Explore such questions as do we need religions and what role do they play in these times of global uncertainty?

Part two – AI: the rights and the wrongs

Explore the ways in which Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing our lives and asking some difficult questions about what is right and wrong, society and politics. Is AI truly intelligent? Can AI replace human creativity? What are the social and political consequences of developing AI?

While offer holders take part in interactive sessions, guests can attend this Q&A session to find out more about UoG and ask questions about tuition fees and loans, accommodation options and admissions.

Off-campus accommodation will also be available to view at Pittville Student Village until 5pm. Pittville Student Village is a hub of activity with 800 student rooms, social spaces, gym, studio and study suite. 

A free bus service will be running from FCH to Pittville Student Village every 20 minutes, or you can make your own way there. Find it on Albert Road, Cheltenham, GL52 3JG.
