From understanding the criminal mind with crime scene investigations and virtual reality to supporting animal conservation in the wild, we're not only curious about the world, but want to be part of shaping its future too.

Our inspiring lecturers

Whether working on research that advises governments, or undertaking field research around the world, you'll be supported by scientists and experts. Our lecturers produce BBC documentaries and create tools to help frontline policing.

Interactive sessions

Gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology.

Crime scene house - Practise the management of crime scenes and carry out forensic investigation. Learn how to collect and analyse evidence and present it in court.

EEG and virtual reality labs - Use VR, Electroencephalographya and biological markers to explore psychology.

Environmental labs - You'll recieve training on state-of-the-art equipment which you can use for development, discovery and your final major project.

GIS computing lab -  Our Geographic Information Systems computing lab gives you the skills to work in a range of industries, from mapping fr conservation to planning sustainable urban development.

With our small class sizes and our focus on providing the best possible student experience, you won't just be a face in the crowd. Students and lecturers learn and work closely together in the seminar room, the laboratory and the field.

Travel further afield

Every year our students complete over 4,000 work placements and internships.

Animal Biology, Biology or Ecology & Environmental Science - Investigate animal behavior on a South African wildlife reserve or the impact of deforestation in Borneo.

Geography - Travel to Canada, Italy, the Swiss Alps or South Africa to discover different geographical landscapes and investigate social transformation.

Criminology, Sociology & Psychology - Examine different criminal justice and social issues in Canada, Bosnia or Ireland or visit Finland to explore approaches to psychology.

What we have to offer...

From looking inside the mind with virtual reality and EEG equipment, to examining African snails and venus flytraps, our fully-equipped and dedicated labs provide you with the perfect research centre. We also have a dedicated forensic interview suite and mock crime scene house for you to test your skills in gathering and examining evidence.​

All of our courses have a strong practical element, whether through volunteering and internships, research or field trips and fieldwork. Some courses also offer the opportunity to take on research projects with, or for, external organisations, while others focus on developing your practical experience by providing a wide range of volunteering opportunities in which you can put your skills to the test.
