Your audition
We are looking for passion, enthusiasm, motivation and potential that we can develop. We like to see your character coming through your audition – be yourself! Our auditions are relaxed and fun and we help you achieve your best!
Essential information
Our audition days are designed to offer you a snapshot of what it is like to study at University of Gloucestershire, so it’s not just about the audition.
We want you to view our facilities, take a class with us, meet with our academic teams, chat with current students, tour the campus and visit the accommodation you may be living in. Please note that although you are asked to register for 11.45am, your audition time will be allocated on the day and you can expect to be with us for the afternoon. We also welcome parents/guests to our audition days and hold a special Q&A for them whilst you are attending your audition.
If you have any questions or require more information about your audition, please contact our admissions team on 03330 141414 or email [email protected].
Audition
Please prepare two monologues from the options provided to you: one classical (e.g. Shakespeare) and one contemporary. If you have a familiarity with one or more of the monologue choices then this is fine; we would encourage you to choose a speech that you feel comfortable with. Be prepared to talk about the context of the speeches, the plays that they are from and the playwrights. We may work with you on one or both of these so that we can see how you work with direction and for you to gain an opportunity to experience our approach to actor training.
You will be expected to be ‘off book’ for the audition which means knowing your speeches without the need to refer to a script or mobile phone.
Group workshops
You will have two drama workshops where you will meet students and work with a member of the teaching team.
Your Audition will include a ten-minute informal chat.
Some of the questions we may ask you:
1. What have you been doing recently, what are your interests?
2. Why do you want to study Drama and Performance Practice with us at the University of Gloucestershire and how do you think the course could help you to achieve your goals?
3. What are the areas you are particularly strong in and where do you need further support to develop your potential? This could include practical and ‘academic’ work.
Please also bring any questions you have for us!
If you have any questions or require more information about your audition, please contact Craig Norman, Academic Course Leader: Drama and Performance Practice, [email protected]
We believe that meeting our applicants and giving them the opportunity to mix with our staff and students, as well as explore our facilities, is the best way to help them make the important decision about their choice of university. But if for any reason you are unable to travel to the University for this event please let us know and we will arrange an online audition.
