Your audition
We are looking for passion, enthusiasm, motivation and potential that we can develop. We like to see your character coming through your audition – be yourself!
Essential information
Our Experience Days are designed to offer you a snapshot of what it is like to study at University of Gloucestershire, so it’s not just about the audition. We want you to view our facilities, take a class with us, meet with our academic teams, chat with current students, tour the campus and visit the accommodation you may be living in.
There will be three practical parts to your Experience Day – a group dance workshop, a group drama workshop and an individual audition.
If you have any questions or require more information about your audition, please contact our admissions team on 03330 141414 or email [email protected].
You should bring comfortable clothing, suitable for a dance class – there are changing facilities available.
You do not need to prepare anything for the group workshops, but we ask you to prepare a song and a monologue for the individual part of the audition, please see information below.
Song
We ask you to sing a song, in any style of your choosing. If you would like, you can bring a backing track with you on USB or CD, or know where to find it on YouTube. We may have an accompanist available if you would like to bring sheet music, but we cannot guarantee that for every audition – get in touch if you want to be sure about this! Unaccompanied is also fine. We’d like you to sing the whole song – as a rough guide we would be looking for something between 2 and 4 minutes long.
Monologue
We ask you to perform a monologue in English. There is no requirement for this to be from any particular historical period. It’s best if you know the context of the monologue – the story behind the scene and the character. As a rough guide, we would be expecting this to be around 1 to 2 minutes in length. We may work with you on your monologue, to see how you take direction, so make sure you know it well.
Your Audition will include a short conversation, giving us the chance to get to know you a bit better and answer any questions you have.
What we may ask you
1. What have you been doing recently, what are your interests?
2. Why you want to study Musical Theatre with us at University of Gloucestershire and how do you think the course could help you achieve your goals?
3. What are the areas you are particularly strong in, and where do you need further support to develop your potential – this could include practical and ‘academic’ work.
Please bring any questions you have for us!
If you have any questions or require more information about your Experience Day, please contact David Last, Academic Course Leader for Musical Theatre, at [email protected]
We believe that meeting our applicants and giving them the opportunity to mix with our staff and students, as well as explore our facilities, is the best way to help them make the important decision about their choice of university. But if for any reason you are unable to travel to the University for this event please let us know and we will arrange an online audition.
