What is Clearing?
Discover what UCAS Clearing is and how it works.
Clearing is an academic service provided by UCAS and universities across the UK. This service offers prospective students an opportunity to secure a place at university if they haven’t yet confirmed one.
As well as creating an opportunity for students to apply to university, Clearing also enables universities to fill any places they have available on their courses.

What is Clearing UCAS?
Clearing UCAS, Clearing, UCAS Clearing, even University Clearing – they are all different terms with the same meaning outlined above.
Who can apply through UCAS Clearing?
Many students are eligible to apply to university through Clearing. This may be because a student hasn’t received the grades they were hoping for on results day, or they have only recently decided to apply to university.
All students who apply to university after 30 June will automatically be entered into the Clearing process by UCAS.
When does Clearing open?
Clearing starts on 5 July, so if you’re submitting an application after 30 June, you will be applying through the UCAS Clearing service. Courses that are available in Clearing are usually published at the beginning of July.

How can I apply for a place at UoG through Clearing?
If you’re applying for any courses through Clearing, you’ll still need to register and make an application through UCAS as normal. If you’re not holding any offers from other universities, UCAS will provide you with a Clearing Number, which enables you to apply for courses.
