New industry-driven Architecture, Construction and Environment courses
The University of Gloucestershire has launched a new set of BA/BSc undergraduate and MA/MSc postgraduate courses to train future professionals in ‘Architecture, Construction and the Environment’. The new courses have been created to meet a growing demand from industry locally, nationally and internationally.
On the new Architecture course students study the history of art and architecture, visual and spatial design, materiality, sustainability, construction, ethics, economics and digital communication. They are encouraged to challenge perceptions and become a future-focused design creative who explores ways to improve and enhance the lives of other people.
On the new Interior Architecture and Design course students learn to design new spaces or imaginatively adapt, reuse, remodel, refurbish and refit existing buildings − creating new exciting, experiential spaces and places. They develop skills to design and interpret environmental conditions, materiality and gain an understanding of construction processes.
There is also an existing course focusing in on Interior Design. Students imaginatively create or manipulate spaces, to design something beautiful and fit for purpose. They learn the role of sustainability in design, and apply biophilic design which promotes individual health and wellbeing in the interior environment.
On the new Urban Planning courses students develop an understanding of the factors and preconditions necessary for the successful delivery of planning within the built and natural environment. Our graduates aspire, enhance, develop and lead in design and planning professions, as well as community and environmental organisations and media careers. BSc and MSc options are available.
On the new Quantity Surveying course students develop a firm foundation of professional skills, with a broad understanding of the construction industries, whilst developing the business acumen to manage construction projects. Students are kept informed and up-to-date on cutting edge technology, professional practice and industry developments.
On the new Digital Construction course students explore the challenges and changing digital technological needs of the multidisciplinary team, construction sites and future construction industries. Students will develop in-depth integrated understanding of Building Information Modelling (BIM), SMART contemporary building practices, contemporary design, and office and onsite technologies to develop efficient construction processes in their existing role or progress towards a new career discipline.
The new courses sit alongside long-standing courses in Landscape Architecture.

The students will work together within modern studios with architects, urban planners, construction project managers, landscape architects and quantity surveyors. Informed by the latest research and professional practice, they will explore the industry’s most cutting-edge ideas, technologies and developments.
