Interior Design as a discipline is incredibly diverse, and this is reflected in our practice-based design studio ethos which celebrates inclusivity, collaboration and peer learning.
On this course, you’ll work with clients to imaginatively create or manipulate interior spaces, to design something beautiful and fit for purpose. You’ll develop the design and technological skills you need to graduate ready to progress into industry. Understand the role of sustainability in design, and apply biophilic design which promotes individual health and wellbeing in the interior environment.
You’ll hear from design professionals in lectures, work on live industry projects and undertake essential work placements at design companies, ready for your career. Recent destinations have included Dowdeswell Estates, Neptune and Wren Kitchens. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit Europe on a residential field trip with options including exploring creative interiors in Amsterdam, Barcelona, or Copenhagen.
You’ll work on client-led briefs exploring spatial design, architectural design, decoration, interior styling, textile and surface design, print, colour theory, and the role and responsibilities of the designer to wider communities, challenging your views of what Interior Design is and might become. A commitment to sustainability and the circular economy underpin all of our teaching – it’s our compass point – and during your studies you will discover innovative responses to these principles.
A central and shared thematic concerns ‘people’ – how interior designers are able to influence the layout of the homes that we live in, the places we work and our healthcare, retail, commercial, museum and exhibition settings. For every ‘host’ environment there’s invariably an interior to be designed with a deep understanding of client and contextual narratives.
In your final year you’ll create and launch your own interior design brand and have the opportunity to exhibit your Final Major Project at ‘New Designers’ in London, a graduate exhibition attracting international design employers.
