Course overview

This MA will help you gain the right knowledge, skills and connections you need to forge a career in Public Relations (PR) and communications.

Graduates have gone on to work for major brands such as Dyson, Formula One and designer fashion labels as well as local government, charities and renowned PR agencies.

You’ll learn how to use the latest techniques in digital PR, social media, AI and other media to create effective PR campaigns.

Modules cover subjects including influencer-targeting, social media strategy, campaign planning, crisis communications, media relations, strategic communications and so much more.  You will also gain skills in video and podcast recording, copywriting and editing using Adobe software.

Our lecturers are still practising PR professionals and we also bring in guest speakers at the top of their game to help you build your knowledge and connections over the 12-month course.

So, whether you’re looking to take your first steps on the career ladder or would like to enhance your existing skills, there is something for everyone on this course.

On this one-year programme, you will discover thy ‘why’ behind what we do in public relations before putting this academic theory into practice.

You’ll learn by doing, working on live, on-the-job client briefs as well as building up a portfolio of work on everything from communication strategies to multimedia content.

Lectures are scheduled for two consecutive days of the week to make it flexible for you to work around the course.

We offer a strong programme of guest lectures and group visits to provide experiences and opportunities for students. Guest speakers have included Sport England, UCAS, BHM, Reach Plc as well as a host of PR agencies.

We are based at the beautiful Park campus in Cheltenham – a stunning Regency town with great shopping, nightlife and festivals. It’s close to the historic city of Gloucester with its heritage waterfront and famous Cathedral where Harry Potter was filmed.

There are great transport links to nearby Bristol, Birmingham and Bath as well as regular trains and buses to London.

Studying at Park campus means you’ll also have access to some of the best state-of-the-art technology and media studios.
