Effective facilities management is vital to the success of any organisation, whatever its size and scope. At a corporate level, it contributes to the delivery of strategic and operational objectives. On a day-to-day level, effective facilities management provides a safe and efficient working environment.
Within this fast-growing professional discipline, facilities managers have extensive responsibilities for providing, maintaining and developing myriad services. These range from property strategy, space management and communications infrastructure, to building maintenance, administration and contract management.
Facilities Management practitioners work in organisations of all sizes, and in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Those working in this field are accountable for the delivery of a variety of integrated FM operational services (eg catering, cleaning and maintenance), across multiple sites and / or property assets.
Our Facilities Manager Degree Apprenticeship is designed by employers, so learners develop relevant skills that they can apply in workplace right away. The programme allows learners to explore facilities management as a professional discipline, giving them the skills they need to manage spaces, locations, people, time and financial resources. Learners develop transferable business skills, including the ability to work effectively with others, communicate with stakeholders at all levels and use contemporary digital technologies.
The programme is delivered in block sessions, with each module delivered over two days. Learners are expected to completed their apprenticeship within 4 years – this includes the end point assessment (EPA) which is taken in the last 6 months . Assessment methods reflect the varied nature of a business professional’s work and include report writing, presentations and business planning, as well as reflective assessments.
The end point assessment comprises three parts – a work-based project, a presentation and a professional discussion. Prior to undertaking the end point assessment, learners must have achieved the level 6 Extended Diploma in Facilities Management (this is covered as part of the University ‘s curriculum for this programme).
Successful completion of the apprenticeship will meet the full requirements of the IWFM at Member grade. During the programme, apprentices will receive membership of IWFM at the Affiliate grade.
