What is Strategic and Digital Marketing PhD?

As a research degree candidate, you’ll be supported by a supervisory team with expertise in your subject and/or research approach. Our specialisms include consumer culture and identity, digital environments, destination marketing and sustainable tourism.

A research degree will open the door to work in full-time research or teaching, or provide a greater understanding of professional practice. Postgraduate researchers are able to draw on a wide range of expertise from more than 50 academic staff.

We also provide on-going research support in the form of webinars and seminars, and encourage you to participate at our conferences.

Gloucestershire Business School is a member of the European Doctoral Association in Management and Business Administration (EDAMBA), alongside other internationally recognised doctoral providers. Through this membership, our doctoral researchers join a group of over 125 candidates involved in driving new knowledge and professional practice forward.

Study style

There is a strong applied research focus and particular interests in: consumer culture and identity, digital environments, destination marketing and sustainable tourism. . We may also be able to offer you effective supervision for cross-disciplinary projects that link to engineering technology, computing, education and health.

We offer a range of further research training events, postgraduate researcher-led seminars, conferences and summer schools, which will continue your training opportunities throughout your programme. You’ll receive updates on opportunities to participate in training offered through other universities and bodies.

You’re also encouraged to attend national and international academic conferences in the latter stages of your research to present your ideas, and receive feedback at such events.

Entry requirements

    • At least a 2.1 honours degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area

    • A master’s degree or equivalent in a subject area relevant to the proposed research topic.

    • We actively encourage applications from students from a range of diverse backgrounds who demonstrate appropriate research experience and achievement.

    • EU and international students need IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in any other component) or equivalent.

    • If you meet the entry criteria you will be offered an interview with an academic member of staff, either in person or online.

    • Please provide a copy of your research proposal. This should be 1,000 words (excluding references and appendices) following the structure outlined in this research proposal guide.

      Please note; we’re unable to process applications without a proposal for the School’s consideration. Not supplying one will delay the processing of applications.
