Why choose UoG?

Specialist teaching with hands-on practical experience with local sports teams and athletes will prepare you for your dream career within elite sports.

Top reasons to study this course

Our Sports Performance degree is your gateway to the world of high-performance sport, where science, technology, and innovation all push the limits of human potential.

You’ll explore sports sciences like biomechanics, nutrition, physiology, and psychology, while using cutting-edge technology and real-world training methods to unlock peak performance in athletes.

This course is hands-on from day one, blending science theory with access to research labs, data analysis tools, and performance tracking software used by professional teams.

This course will equip you with all the skills needed to secure your dream job within sport. You’ll gain experience through placements with academy teams, county-level clubs, professional teams and top athletes.

Alongside your studies earn industry recognised coaching and sports science qualifications, so you’ll graduate ready for an exciting career in sports performance and coaching.

Our course contains lots of interactive, practical, and lab-based sessions that mirror what happens in elite sports environments. We have a student-centred approach to learning, which means you’ll tackle real challenges using inquiry, problem, and project-based learning, just like you would in the industry.

You’ll get hands-on with cutting-edge equipment, sports tech, and data analytics, learning how to track and enhance athletic performance. You won’t just study theories, you’ll apply them in labs, on the field, and in real-world scenarios.

Our assessments go beyond exams, giving you the chance to showcase your strengths and skills through a variety of practicals, projects, and applied tasks.

In your final year, you will lead your own sports performance research project, investigating an area of sports performance that interests and excites you.

Graduates of our Sports Performance course at UoG go on to thrive in a wide range of roles. Roles include sports performance scientists, where you’d design and implement strategies to push athletes to their limits.

If data is your thing, you could become a performance or data analyst, using advanced analytics to fine-tune tactics and training within sports teams.

You could also become a sports coach, strength & conditioning coach, or fitness trainer, working with individuals and teams to enhance performance and prevent injuries. Or, if teaching is your calling, you can use this degree as a pathway to become a PE Teacher.

You may consider progression into postgraduate study and research, gaining additional qualifications to become an exercise physiologist, biomechanist, nutrition coach, or sport psychologist.
