Copyright

The University of Gloucestershire recognises its responsibility to ensure that staff and students are aware of copyright and how to comply with the law, but that it remains the responsibility of the person making the copy to ensure they do not infringe copyright.

Copyright in the UK is defined in the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 with amendments. More accessible guidance on the exemptions included in this act and subsequent amendments is provided by the Intellectual Property Office, through their copyright guidance pages.

Guidance in the application of the exemptions and ‘fair dealing’ in the act, as well as the use of activity specific licences, is provided to students and staff at the University of Gloucestershire through MyGlos, Staffnet, subject support specialists and training opportunities.

Additional licences are required to work beyond the primarily private study and non-commercial research allowances of ‘fair dealing’ within the act. For research and study use, these are administered by Library, Technology and Information Service (LTI), and include:

• CLA Higher Education Licence (CLA)
• Enhanced Higher Education Supply Service Agreement
• NLA Education Establishment Licence (NLA)
• Educational Recording Agency Licence (ERA)
• Database specific licences
