Continue to raise awareness of the Concordat via Strategy Enhancement Group (SEG), Research Committee, Staff News, VC Newsletter.

Agree a training and development programme for our researchers at all levels which is supported with positive action statements and making explicit links to the concordat principles through collaborative engagement with HR, CCRI, GrowthHub, Concordat Working Group (CWG), Researchers and Managers.

Regularly review the Action Plan, through the CWG, updating it as actions are completed and making it visible on our externally facing web pages.

Environment & Culture and Professional Development:

Continue to integrate the actions in support of the Concordat to Support Research Integrity with the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers through the concordat working groups ensuring that we work collaboratively with the University Research Ethics Committee and HR.

Professional Development:

Once the revised REF principles are circulated by Research England we will deliver specific REF Code orientated training & development for Heads of School, Academic Subject Leaders, and Research Managers

Review University wide principles on time allowance for research and REF as part of wider Workload Allocation Model discussions.

Environment & Culture:


Further support the Early Career Researcher network and embed wherever possible the BA ECRN agenda.Ensure that each School in the University has research representation through RPAs, the Early Career Research Network and a Unit of Assessment housed within the school so that the enhancement of research culture extends to all areas of the University.

Request that the ‘Concordat Review of Actions & Updates’ be incorporated as a standing item to the University Strategic Enhancement Group to ensure regular updates are provided on the progress of our actions and to further embed the Concordat’s mission amongst our Heads of Schools, Heads of Professional Services, Academic Subject Leaders, Managers of Researchers.

Environment & Culture and Professional Development:

Our Head of Research Innovation and Head of Learning & Teaching Innovation will launch a joint New Staff Induction which will take place in February and October each year where the focus will be to update our new research and teaching colleagues on our strategies, processes and policies. This will allow for research and teaching priorities be cascaded amongst our new colleagues.

To roll out an expanded professional development offer by 2023/24.

Employment & Culture:

Initiate discussions with our onboarding team for the awareness of the concordat is incorporated into the new staff induction programme.

To maintain the standard practice of employing research active staff on open-ended contracts.
