Beau Flaherty

My time in the UK was something I’ll never forget. Of all the places I could have studied, being accepted into the University of Gloucestershire and embarking on this once in a lifetime journey together with my sister, really went above and beyond our expectations and anything we could have pictured in our imaginations.

The lifestyle that came with it, the life-long friends we made and are still in touch with today (my boys – 34G, have promised to make the journey Downunder for my wedding one day!), the memories created, experiences lived, and situations we found ourselves in are something we will be forever grateful for, and will NEVER LEAVE US! Being an international student, there was a ton of other people in the same boat as you, regardless of where they came from. The meeting point being the FCH Chapel every Wednesday night for International café, holds some of my fondest memories, no question. Playing ping pong, pool, singing karaoke, sipping delicious hot chocolates, in the chapel was unreal! It was our communal meeting point, and something my household consisting of myself, my sister, Clement and Oceane (French Internationals), only missed twice throughout the entire academic year!

My Honours year of study was amazing! The numerous industry professionals that flooded into our classes week in, week out, was something you just didn’t get at my Uni back home in Australia. This provided the platform for invaluable learning, feedback, critique, and stepping out of my comfort zone, to lay the foundations and deepen the roots which cultivate the young man I am today. Now back in Australia I have just secured a job at a fantastic corporation called 2020Exchange who "inspire extraordinary leadership". They promote and embody improving to a greater and deeper level - leadership, mindfulness, and being your best. This is my DREAM JOB! It is a place where I'll be able to align my passions, values, beliefs and drive with my work. Believe me that my completing my Honours overseas at the wonderful University of Gloucestershire played a very significant part in their decision-making process behind who got the job!
