A Sports Performance degree enables you to apply core sciences, new technologies, and training principles to competitive sport. This course is developing the Sports Performance scientists of the future by equipping graduates with skills and competencies needed to operate in the complex and demanding elite sport environment, empowering them with confidence to generate new ideas and techniques in sporting contexts and beyond.
This course is designed to offer extensive practical experience in real-world and research settings, promoting reflection and critical thinking. Whilst technologies are central to our curriculum, they do not appear standalone, but they are underpinned by the fundamental principles of biomechanics, nutrition, physiology and psychology.
You will master all contemporary data collection techniques and become proficient in data visualisation and analytics. You’ll be taught by world-leading experts in their fields and benefit from our links with national and international sports teams, governing bodies, data analytics and sports technology companies.
Our placement programme will offer a vast selection of opportunities, from supporting academy and county-level clubs, GB teams and other international elite performers. You’ll also have the chance to achieve qualifications with various national governing bodies alongside your degree, allowing you to graduate well-equipped for an exciting career in sports performance and coaching.
The course involves a substantial amount of applied study with most of our modules having a laboratory and/or practical element. Theoretical elements are synched with practical elements and delivered through interactive lectures.
The use of sophisticated equipment, modern technologies and data analytics play an important role in our curriculum. You will be assessed using a variety of methods allowing you to demonstrate your strengths.
Beyond data collection and analysis skills in sports performance, you will develop advanced skills in scientific research methods, undertaking a research project in your final year, in a sports performance area that interests you. You will learn from a team of practicing professionals, internationally recognised for their expertise in Sports Performance, Sport Science and Coaching.
