Estates and Facilities is a multi-disciplinary department responsible for the long term planning, development and maintenance of the University’s estate.
We also provide a variety of facilities related services to all University faculties and departments. The team are responsible for providing services that are essential for the smooth running of the university as a whole and is key to supporting the overall student experience and, therefore, student learning and satisfaction.
From keeping our campuses safe and spotless to managing our green spaces and car parks, our team delivers a wide range of essential services.
These include security, cleaning, maintenance (both planned and reactive), waste management, and grounds care. We also oversee car parking, signage, and contractor coordination, while our catering services help fuel university life.
With a strong focus on sustainability, we support everything from eco-initiatives to long-term capital planning – ensuring our estate evolves to meet future needs.
The delivery of the University’s estates capital plan is well underway, and has seen the opening of the new FuturePark facilities at Park Campus, a new city centre campus in Gloucester and improved sustainability initiatives such as Air Source Heat Pumps and LED lighting.
In March 2021, University of Gloucestershire announced it had bought Gloucester’s Debenhams building to enable its ambitious plans for growth and to work with partners to create a new future for Gloucester.
This iconic building has been brought back to life as a vibrant campus in the heart of the city – a modern centre for teaching, learning and community partnerships.
The development of this 20,000m2 building will place University of Gloucestershire right at the heart of its community, creating a vibrant hub of new activity in Kings Square.
Cutting-edge facilities will include simulation spaces, VR labs, an immersive reality room, and an Electroencephalogram (EEG) lab where students can learn about the naturally occurring electric activity taking place in the brain, and monitor how it is affected by various tasks, conditions and other factors. There will also be science and computer labs, art room and multi-purpose spaces for education teaching and group work.
Shared public access facilities include a new Health, Arts and Wellbeing Centre in partnership with the NHS Integrated Care Board, and a new public library in partnership with Gloucestershire County Council.
As part of our multi-year programme of refurbishment work at Park Campus, we’ve invested in further development of several buildings to further develop our Creative Campus. The work will enable our Creative students to benefit from inspiring spaces, connect with other creatives and develop their own unique voice.
The current works will deliver new photography studios and darkrooms, creative arts workshops, and the creation of new gallery spaces across the campus.
The work also includes the transformation of Elwes atrium into a flexible social and study space, as well as a space for student exhibitions.
FuturePark is an exciting new learning space at Park Campus for our Cyber Security, Computing, and Computer Games Design and Programming courses.
The Facilities and Estates team undertook a range of works which included the creation of a Cyber Control Centre, a Virtual Reality facility, a digital lounge, and enhanced teaching and learning facilities.
In addition to providing state-of-the-art facilities for our students, it will provide a base for knowledge exchange and collaboration between the academic and business communities in Cyber Security, Computing, and Computer Games Design and Programming.
