How to apply

Applying for a research degree

We offer a variety of research degrees and excellent academic supervision ensuring you can progress your area of interest.

Applying for a research degree at UoG is an easy process and an exciting first step to becoming a research student.

In order to secure your place on the course, we recommend that you submit an application as soon as possible. Applications should be submitted at least 2 months before the course start date, as it can take between 4-6 weeks to complete the application journey.

If you are an international applicant and need a Student Route visa, you’ll need to apply at least 6 weeks before your CAS deadline. For more information please see the CAS request deadlines.

5-step application process

1. Browse our subjects

Prior to developing your application, we suggest you take a look at our subjects and areas of expertise in those fields.

Our academic schools host these subjects and illustrate the profiles of the staff and their expertise areas on individual course pages. It is helpful if you have already identified how your proposed research links to areas of specialism and expertise within the relevant School.

Our research priority areas also provide a good insight into areas of current research and academic expertise. If you find a staff profile of interest, you may also benefit from having a look at their research outputs in our open access research repository.
