What is Business and Marketing Management BA (Hons)?

You’ll learn to motivate people in the workplace and how to influence customers to purchase products and services.

You’ll have access to real-world business experiences and challenges with work placement opportunities to give you confidence to put your learning into practice and gain essential contacts. Students have worked for companies such as Warner Bros, BMW and British Heart Foundation. You’ll shadow an entrepreneur, work with a corporate firm and gain experience as a shadow consultant at the Growth Hub, our business centre at Oxstalls Campus.

Focus your degree on business or marketing, or both. If you choose business, you’ll learn about managing people, projects and resources, finance and HR. If you choose marketing, you’ll learn how to connect brands and customers.

Study style

You’ll learn through lectures, seminars, group work, reflective practice, business simulations, problem-solving challenges and presenting. In your first year you’ll gain solid grounding in all aspects of business and marketing including customer behaviour, understanding organisations and the global business environment. You’ll then specialise in business, marketing, or both with subjects such as new business enterprise and e-interactivity and social media, depending on your career aspirations.

Leading international brands and business figures will deliver lectures and give real insight into how to succeed in business. Guests have included Superdry, whose marketing campaigns have seen the brand sell their products to over 100 countries worldwide. You’ll analyse real-world case studies, take part in work simulations and pitch your ideas to business experts. In your final year you’ll take part in an exciting business or marketing challenge with an international or UK brand.

“One of the great things about teaching international business is that it brings me into contact with students from all over the world."

“I love foreign cultures and languages, so this really is my ideal job. One of the highlights of my career has actually been living in Guangzhou in southern China for a year and teaching at the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. I also worked with senior academics from six countries to advise the Moldovan government on the modernisation of their Higher Education sector.”
