You’ll develop skills in managing sports events, facilities and people, as well as capitalising on business opportunities in this dynamic industry, with a focus on high performance leadership.
You’ll gain experience through professional placements, students have recently worked for Ironman UK, Gloucestershire FA, Mark Johnston Racing, England Rugby Tours as well as for sports businesses in the USA, Australia and New Zealand.
You’ll also build your industry understanding through sports practitioners in lectures with recent guests including professionals from The Football People, Cricket South Africa, Gloucester Rugby and Aspire Sport and Cultural Trust.
You’ll develop your critical and creative thinking in interactive lectures and seminars, taking part in discussion-based tasks such as analysing case studies, or applying recently learned theory to real-world projects.
Your first year will introduce you to the fundamentals of sports business as well as community sports provision. Learn why sport is so important to people and examine the policies and protocols that govern the industry. In your second and final years you’ll deepen your commercial knowledge. Gain experience on a professional placement as well as managing real-life sports events.
You’ll choose modules to match your interests and career goals. As well as the High Perfomance Leadership modules, you could choose to study topics such as sports-tour management, community sport partnerships, digital media and sport, or event design and production.

English Language or Literature and Maths Grade 4/C in GCSE (or equivalent) are normally required.
We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants, although some entry requirements may still apply for Professionally Accredited Courses. We accept Access to Higher Education Diplomas and make offers on an individual basis.

We work in collaboration with a number of partners with different areas of expertise and knowledge within the sports business sector.
For example, you will have the opportunity to work with Forest Green Rovers FC, a leading light on sustainability in the sports sector, who work with the UN as well as other professional clubs (such as Arsenal FC) to advise them of best practices for their business in this area.
Throughout your studies. you will be offered various opportunities to work with the club, from placements and volunteering opportunities to stadium visits and working on live project briefs that will effect real change for the club.
You’ll gain industry insights on field trips with recent excursions including sporting venues such as Cheltenham Racecourse, Gloucester Rugby Club, the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, and St Pierre Marriot Hotel and Country Club, among Europe’s premier golfing venues.
You will also have the opportunity to go on international trips, to contextualise learning and further understanding. In recent years students have been to Switzerland (Youth Winter Olympics) and Germany (Bayern Munich, World Handball Championships) to experience and speak to experts working in the sector and provide aspirational opportunities to our students.
