Sport Business Management BA (Hons)

University of Gloucestershire

What is Sport Business Management BA (Hons)?

You’ll develop skills in managing sports events, facilities and people, as well as capitalising on business opportunities in this dynamic industry. You’ll gain experience through professional placements, students have recently worked for Ironman UK, Gloucestershire FA, Mark Johnston Racing, Gullivers Sports Travel as well as for sports businesses in the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

You’ll also build your industry understanding through sports practitioners in lectures with recent guests including professionals from The Football People, Cricket South Africa, Gloucester Rugby and Aspire Sport and Cultural Trust.

You’ll develop your critical and creative thinking in interactive lectures and seminars. You’ll take part in discussion-based tasks such as analysing case studies, or applying recently learned theory to real-world projects.

Your first year will introduce you to the fundamentals of sports business as well as community sports provision. Learn why sport is so important to people and examine the policies and protocols that govern the industry. In your second and final years you’ll deepen your commercial knowledge. Gain experience on a professional placement as well as managing real-life sports events.

You’ll choose modules to match your interests and career goals. You could choose to study topics such as sports-tour management, community sport partnerships, digital media and sport, or event design and production.

This course is available to study with an integrated foundation year – an extra, introductory year at the beginning of the full degree. If you don’t meet the stated entry requirements or you’re returning to education, it could be a great option that enables you to study this course.

As well as an introduction to your subject, it will help you to develop valuable study skills, and communication, teamwork and problem-solving techniques, giving you the confidence and skills set you need to progress.

If you’re applying to study as an international student, an integrated foundation year can also support you to improve your English language skills alongside your studies.

To apply for this course with an integrated foundation year, select the ‘With foundation year’ study type from the options at the top of this page before clicking ‘Apply’.

"This course really does give you the best of both worlds"

“Combining a shared love of sport with relevant business management topics. You have such a wide option of modules to choose from that you can steer your career path in any direction. I have been able to take what I have learnt in the classroom into a professional environment whilst on placement with IRONMAN as their Branding Manager for the UK and Ireland. My placement gave me invaluable industrial experience and was my first taste of a career that I can envisage myself in for many years.”
