International student accommodation

Last updated: 4 April 2023

Please read all the below information on the range of halls and private accommodation available to you.

September 2023

If arriving in September you can apply for a September – June contract in any of the residences. See ‘University Halls of Residence’ section below for more information.

We have a Halls guarantee date of 3 July 2023 for UK/EU undergraduate and postgraduate students and 7 August 2023 for international students.

University halls of residence

We have a range of halls of residence accommodation available to international students across Cheltenham and Gloucester. Some are managed by the University and others by partner companies.

Prices range from £133 per week (a room with shared kitchen and bathroom) to £213 per week (self-contained studio).

The majority of our rooms are en-suite (personal shower room) with shared kitchens, which range from £120 – £172 per week.

You can apply to live in halls of residence if you are a full-time student and are looking for a single-occupancy room.

Standard halls contracts in University-managed halls are fully inclusive of all your bills and end on June 17th 2023.

Please note: once you have accepted your place in Halls of Residence and have moved in, your agreement is legally binding, and you will not be released from the accommodation should you change your mind.

Do not accept a contract if you intend to look for alternative accommodation on arrival. You will be liable for the payment for the full period of the contract, even if you leave earlier, so to avoid disappointment and financial difficulty, be sure you are happy with the full contract.

When we send you a room offer, you only need to make a £200 advanced rent payment to secure your room. If you have queries about your allocation or wish to ask about longer contract lengths you can email our Halls Allocations team:

Short-term halls of residence option for new international postgraduate students

There will be a short-term option available for international postgraduate students that will allow students to stay in a halls of residence for the first term whilst looking for alternative accommodation.

More details regarding this option will be available here in May 2023.

University approved accommodation

Private sector

The University has a dedicated website for students at the university to find accommodation in approved shared student housing in the private sector. This is where you rent a property directly from a private landlord.

You can find all approved accommodation at:

You need to contact the landlords directly from the site to enquire about specific properties. All contact details are on each advert for each landlord, and in most cases, you can send a message through the site.

All properties on the site are registered with the university and meet certain health and safety criteria. Each property will vary in size, location, rental amount and standard, so it is important that you view several properties before making your final decision.

All these properties are shared student housing, where you take a room in a property, sharing the communal spaces with other students. It is important to visit the property and meet the other housemates, where possible, to ensure you feel comfortable that it is a suitable environment for you to live and study.

It’s very important you view the property and meet the tenants before committing to a property – we would recommend that you book temporary accommodation for your arrival and allow yourself time to conduct in-person viewings.
