Sport and graduate studies

Students who are coming to the end of their NCAA (National Collegiate Athletics Association) or NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) eligibility can continue their athletic careers at UoG whilst studying for a graduate degree.

After completing four years of undergraduate study in the USA, you can pursue postgraduate education in the UK for an additional year, where you can earn a master’s degree in just one year, compared to two years in the USA. During this time, you’ll also have the opportunity to live abroad and continue playing university-level sports without the restrictions of NCAA eligibility rules.

Here at University of Gloucestershire we also offer guaranteed student accommodation to any international student who applies for it by the deadline.

We offer sports scholarships in a range of sports, particularly Women’s Soccer & Men’s Basketball. We also accept applications across a wide range of our other sports including men’s Soccer, American football, volleyball, men’s & women’s rugby and tennis. We offer sports scholarship packages for elite performers, aspiring coaches and match officials. We’ll help you to excel, both in sport and in your academic career.

Women’s soccer

We want our athletes to thrive in the best possible environment, which is why we support our women’s football programme in a number of ways.

We are an FA Women’s High Performance Football Centre, one of only 10 in the country, and have two competitive teams that play in fixtures against other universities in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league. Our teams are coached by fully qualified coaches.

FA High Performance Centre

The FA has partnered with UoG to set up one of only ten FA Women’s High Performance Football Centre’s (FA WHPFC) in the UK.

Establishing a connection with the England talent pathway and FA WSL & Championships clubs, the centres will provide talented players with an environment to facilitate both their academic and football ambitions, providing a variety of services such as coaching, sports science, and sports medicine and scholarship opportunities.

Men’s basketball

Basketball is a developing sport in Gloucester and at UoG. This year we have continued our partnership with Gloucester City Kings, the local men’s basketball team who play in the National Basketball League – Division 3.

We compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues on Wednesday afternoons, and many of our students play in either national league for Kings, or in one of the lower Kings teams in the local league. There are certainly plenty of basketball opportunities available for keen players to come and get involved in.
