What is a higher or degree business apprenticeship? 

Higher apprenticeships in business allow you to study business, whilst in employment, and gain a level 4 (or level 5) qualification.   

Degree apprenticeships in business allow you to study a course in business, whilst in employment and receive either a Bachelor of Arts qualification (level 6) or Master of Business Administration (level 7), or both upon completion. 

Both higher and degree apprenticeships are funded by the government and the employer.

Who can study a higher or degree business apprenticeship? 

To study a higher or degree business apprenticeship, you will need to be a UK resident, employed and working at least 30 hours a week.

When can I apply for a higher or degree business apprenticeship? 

You can apply for a higher or degree business apprenticeship at any point in the year. However, you will need to ensure that your employer has agreed to be involved with your enrolment on the apprenticeship. 

Once you have received confirmation from your employer, you will need to ask them to enquire directly through the specific business apprenticeship course page.

Once your employer has enquired, our apprenticeships team will get in touch with them to discuss the next steps in the process. 

Depending on the course, enrolment will normally be in September or January. 

How to apply for a higher or degree business apprenticeship

Unlike a normal degree, you cannot apply directly to a higher or degree apprenticeship in business. Instead, you will need your employer to register interest via our apprenticeship course pages.

  1. Approach your employer in the first instance to discuss the options

Where do I study a higher and degree-level business apprenticeship? 

When studying a higher-level business apprenticeship, you will study over an 18-month or two-year period.

When studying a degree-level business apprenticeship, you will study over a 3-to-4-year period (depending on the course).  

Your day-to-day workplace projects will support study modules in the apprenticeship. Some hours of study will also be spent on campus, at home or at a different location. 

Study style can vary depending on the specific course and workplace requirements. They will be outlined and communicated with you upon enrolment.
