What is Events Management BA (Hons)?

You’ll gain experience with major events organisations, specialising in business, sports, celebratory or music events and make the most of our unrivalled location in the festival county of Gloucestershire. You’ll learn from experienced events specialists and benefit from our partnerships with international events organisations such as Millbrook Venues, Concert Live and Silverstone.

Our hospitality, event management & tourism courses are ranked 11th in the UK, and 10th in the UK for career prospects by the Guardian University Guide 2023.

You’ll use industry-standard software to design and deliver events for external clients, learning to manage events on all scales. You’ll undertake work experience each year with the option to spend a year in industry on the four-year sandwich course. Students have recently worked for Concert Live, Collection 26, the Natural History Museum, Silverstone, BMW, Sea Pines Resort (USA) and Gloucestershire-based Wychwood Music Festival.

You’ll also get opportunities to gain international events experience with the possibility of going on an overseas field trip and work placement in the USA.

This course combines theory and practice to develop creativity from problem solving and event design to management planning and pitching. You’ll work in teams and independently to develop your professional expertise, ready for your career.

In your first year, you’ll establish core events management skills, after which you can tailor the course to match your interests and career goals. You can choose to specialise in one of our four specialisms – business, sports, celebratory or musical and cultural events – or shape your degree to focus on management areas such as events marketing or new product development.

This course is available to study with an integrated foundation year – an extra, introductory year at the beginning of the full degree. If you don’t meet the stated entry requirements or you’re returning to education, it could be a great option that enables you to study this course.

As well as an introduction to your subject, it will help you to develop valuable study skills, and communication, teamwork and problem-solving techniques, giving you the confidence and skills set you need to progress.

If you’re applying to study as an international student, an integrated foundation year can also support you to improve your English language skills alongside your studies.

Entry requirements

    • 104 UCAS tariff points, BCC at A levels, DMM at BTEC or a Merit in your T-Level.

      If you are unsure whether we could make you an offer or you have any questions, just get in touch with our admissions team who will be able to advise you.

    • English Language or Literature and Maths Grade 4/C in GCSE (or equivalent) are normally required.

    • This course is available with an additional integrated foundation year. This four year option has lower entry requirements – see below – than the other study type/s available.

      Typical offers
      48 UCAS tariff points, DD at A levels, PPP at BTEC or a Pass in your T Level.

      GCSEs
      Grade C/4 in English Language/Literature and Mathematics, or equivalent (e.g. Level 2 Functional Skills).

    • We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants, although some entry requirements may still apply for Professionally Accredited Courses. We accept Access to Higher Education Diplomas and make offers on an individual basis.

These relationships provide our students with industry opportunities, including working with organisations like the O2 Arena, Silverstone, BMW, Cheltenham Festivals, Cheltenham Town Hall, Concert Live, Marketing Gloucester, Old Down Manor and Country Park, Wychwood Festival, IBM, and Business Design Centre. Internationally we can provide industry opportunities with Marriott Hotels and Resorts and Sea Pines Resorts in USA.

Develop creative and entrepreneurial expertise

Designing, developing and delivering events of all scales for external clients. Embedded in every year of study is the opportunity to get involved in live event production which means you will graduate with the skills that the industry is looking for.

ThreeSixty student consultancy

Students on this course will have the chance to get involved with our new student consultancy, ThreeSixty. Based at our state-of-the-art School of Business, you’ll get the opportunity to develop your graduate competencies and attributes by working with business, third sector and individuals on a consultancy basis, solving their challenges.

Placements

You’ll learn from experienced events specialists and benefit from our partnerships with international events organisations such as Millbrook Venues, Concert Live and Silverstone.

You’ll also get opportunities to gain international events experience with the possibility of going on an overseas field trip and work placement in the USA.

As part of your course you can gain valuable experience on an optional placement year.

  • Duration – 12 months, full-time (minimum 35 hours a week)
  • Location – popular destinations include the UK, USA, China and Europe
  • Visa – you may need a visa if you’re on placement abroad
  • Finance – your tuition fee is reduced for your placement year – and you can still apply for a maintenance loan and get money advice
  • Placement support – we’ll help you find a great placement and get the most out of the experience
