Gain and improve your tech skills with our IoC Skills Bootcamp. Flexible courses which can fast-track to an interview with an employer.

Skills Bootcamps are flexible, 16-week courses that offer opportunities to learn and develop skills in tech, which fast-track you to an interview with an employer.

All teaching will be delivered online to ensure maximum engagement from students.

They’ve been developed by the Government as part of the Lifetime Skills Guarantee and Plan for Jobs, in partnership with employers, providers, and local authorities, to help people develop the skills that are in demand in their local area and grow into a new role and career.

Bootcamp in Cyber Analysis

Applications open to those living within the UK only

Learners will cover the basics in five interdisciplinary modules and one subject area. This includes System Design, Network Design & Configuration, Computer and Security and Ethical Hacking.

Learners who enroll in the Cyber Analysis Bootcamp will learn why we need to implement, maintain and support the security controls that protect an organisation’s systems and data assets from threats and hazards. This ensures that security technologies and practices are operating in accordance with the organisation’s policies and standards to provide continued protection.

You will gain a broad understanding of network infrastructure, software and data to identify where threats and hazards can occur. You will learn why we should perform periodic vulnerability assessments, evaluating the organisation’s ongoing security posture and the importance of visibility to manage the main risks and control status on an ongoing basis.

Bootcamp in Software Engineering

Applications open to those living or working in the South West only

Learners will cover the basics in five interdisciplinary modules and one subject area. This includes System Design, Network Design & Configuration, Computer and Security and Algorithms & Data Science.

Learners who enroll in the Software Engineering Bootcamp will develop the skills to design, build and test high-quality software solutions. You will learn to apply engineering principles to all stages of the software development process whilst ensuring robust security measures are built-in.

Bootcamp in Data Science

Applications open to those living or working in the South West only

Learners will cover the basics in five interdisciplinary modules and one subject area. This includes: System Design, Network Design & Configuration, Computer and Security and Artificial intelligence.

Learners who enroll in the Data Science Bootcamp will learn why we need to find information in diverse datasets to address complex problems and improve organisational processes.

Data science is a growing sector, with the potential to change the way we live in the future by solving or offering insights into many of the largest problems of today. In this dynamic course, you’ll learn why we need to program and gain mathematic skills to use these technologies to solve the real-world problems relevant to your existing knowledge and expertise.

Study style

Training will be delivered as virtual sessions where students can take part through Microsoft Teams.

Additionally, all sessions will be recorded and made available to all students over the 16-week period. We expect students to commit to up to 15 hours of teaching each weekend – 7.5 hours Saturday and 7.5 hours Sunday.

Entry requirements

Eligibility checklist

You’ll also need to be able to answer ‘yes’ to all of the following questions to be eligible to apply:

  • Are you 19 years of age or over?
  • Are you a UK citizen or have the legal right to live and work in the UK?
  • Are you resident in England or a resident of Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland and moving into a digital job with an employer based in England?
  • Are you in work, self-employed, recently unemployed or returning to work after a break?
  • Can you commit to 16 weeks of study starting on 24th October? On average you’ll need to set aside every weekend from October to March (minus the holiday period) for study but at certain points in the programme, more study time may be required.
  • Are you committed to moving into / returning to a digital job role at the end of the programme?
  • Agree to provide mandatory personal data and supplementary information on their employment outcomes for up to 8 months following completion of the Skills Bootcamp
  • Have you achieved a grade C or above in GCSE Mathematics (or equivalent)?
  • Do you have regular access to a desktop or laptop computer with an internet connection?
  • Note that for job roles with some of the employers we are working with, you need to be willing and eligible to go through the vetting process to achieve UK government level security clearance (BPSS and SC levels) but this is not a requirement to be eligible for the programme.

Fees

All Skills Bootcamps are available to study for free for those who are unemployed.

Learners who are employed must opt for the co-funded route, Skills Bootcamps are not free for those already in a paid role.

Employers who intend to send existing employees who meet the Skills Bootcamp entry requirements on this training get a 70% discount.

Application process

Learners must meet all the entry requirements and eligibility criteria before they apply.

Learners will need to complete an application form and be required to submit a one-minute video explaining:

  1. Why you would like to enroll on the Skills Bootcamp
  2. What you hope to gain on from the Skills Bootcamp
  3. Career aspirations from the Skills Bootcamp

There are 16 places available on each Skills Bootcamp.

Applications are now closed for 2022. Applicants will be notified by mid-October if they have been successful or not in their chosen Bootcamp – your patience is most appreciated.
