“The lecturers are excellent. I feel really supported with my future plans. I’ve already got tutorials booked to discuss what career routes I want to go down and what I can be doing in my final year, ready for when I leave.”

Strategy, research

“The MSc Sports Therapy course really encouraged me to stay up-to-date with current research and implement evidence-based strategies to our injury prevention and rehab protocols.”

Joby Wilson, Sports Therapy graduate & Owner/ Lead Sports Therapist of Reboot Injury Clinic

Challenge, relentless

If you aspire to reach the highest levels in your sport, we can help maximise your potential as a scholar. The university will be awarding at least 20 new Sports Scholarships to athletes, coaches and officials.

“We’re challenged all the time at the uni. It’s relentless and there’s always something new to learn. Refereeing is not seen as the attractive side of sport but I’ve been to Hong Kong, Dubai, Japan and Georgia for the World Rugby Under 20 Championship as an assistant referee.”

Christophe Ridley, Referee Scholarship graduate. Having graduated from his course in BSc Sports Coaching, Christophe is now a Professional Rugby Union Referee.

Play hard

Our community

Our sports community goes beyond our courses.

Whether you’d like to compete in BUCS leagues, play Varsity against our rivals at Worcester, or triumph in Olympic and Commonwealth Games – you’ll have access to top-class coaches and specialist training programmes and facilities.

Play for fun

If you’re looking to join a local league, find new ways of keeping fit or meet some new people, we have a wide range of activities and clubs you can join.

There’s a fantastic tradition of ‘Blue and Blue’ sport at the uni: from Fencing, Water Polo and Jiu-Jitsu, to Trampolining, Karting and Equestrian.

All our teams are student-led, with support from the SU, and each club offers the chance for you to gain confidence and make life-long friends.

Home of sport

Students walking across a bridge

We had 12 elite athletes compete in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. We’re home to ancient forests and hills that offer adventure in the great outdoors. From paddle-boarding and rock climbing, to skiing and wild swimming – you’ll never be bored.

Located in the heart of Gloucester, Oxstalls is a high-energy campus of competitive and forward-thinking individuals. Here, our students train and study to be at the top of their game. Complete with bespoke sports facilities, 24hr library and computing suite, plus it’s only a short walk from Kingsholm Stadium, where you can see our home rugby team play.

World Class Facilities

“People see in here thousands of pounds worth of kit. Facilities tick the boxes. It is a case of ‘Here is my equipment, how about we make you really good athletes?’ And that is what has happened so far.”
