The articles below provide the latest information relating to the UK’s exit from the EU, and how this may affect the immigration requirements for EU/EEA nationals.
UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) operates a points-based immigration system, commonly referred to as ‘PBS’. This system has a number of distinct visa categories, and the route for students is appropriately named the Student Route.
Students studying courses of more than six months (or Pre-sessional courses) should apply for a visa under the Student Route.
For periods of study or research lasting up to six months, it is now possible to study on a Standard Visitor visa.
The category of Standard Visitor will also be appropriate for students returning to the UK to attend graduation and for family members and friends who wish to visit a student while they are in the UK.
The UK Home Office is planning to introduce a new Graduate Route visa to allow for students to live and work in the UK after completing their studies. This route is planned to be introduced from the Summer of 2021 onwards.
