UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) operates a points-based immigration system, commonly referred to as ‘PBS’. This system has a number of distinct visa categories, and the route for students is appropriately named the Student Route.
Students studying courses of more than six months (or Pre-sessional courses) should apply for a visa under the Student Route.
Watch the video below for a step-by-step guide to completing the online Student Route application.
For periods of study or research lasting up to six months, it is now possible to study on a Standard Visitor visa.
The category of Standard Visitor will also be appropriate for students returning to the UK to attend graduation and for family members and friends who wish to visit a student while they are in the UK.
The UK Government has introduced a new Graduate route, to allow for students to live and work in the UK after completing their studies. This route will open for applications on 1 July 2021.
